May Update and Prayer Points

May God, our Father, fill you through the power of the Holy Spirit with HOPE, JOY, and PEACE.

  1. HOPE means confidence or expectation.
  2. JOY means a calm delight, being exceedingly glad.
  3. PEACE means rest, quietness, or lack of turmoil.

Even though the pressures and frustrations of life are real, we as believers and intercessors for Israel do not need to be overwhelmed by them. We have the promises of God’s Word to rely on. Take a moment and allow the Holy Spirit to touch you, refresh you, and fill you with hope, joy, and peace.

Important Events on the Hebrew Calendar

The Hebrew calendar is a lunisolar system based on moon phases with solar adjustments, while the Gregorian calendar is purely solar. The Hebrew calendar sets the day starting at sunset (as in Genesis). The Hebrew year starts counting from the biblical creation. This year is 5786 on the Hebrew calendar and is 3,760–3,761 years ahead of the Gregorian year.

Jerusalem Day – May 14-15 (Hebrew Month Iyar 28)

This is a celebration of the reunification of Jerusalem that took place during the Battle for Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War.

Prayer for Jerusalem

Psalm 122:6-9 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.”  For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.”  Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good. NKJV

  1. Peace means – shalom, safe, happy, healthy, prosperity, peace.
    • Safe: From terror attacks and wars.
    • Happy: Joy will fill homes and hearts in Jerusalem.
    • Healthy: The inhabitants of Jerusalem would experience good health.
    • Prosperity: The economy of Jerusalem will be blessed with new investment in the job market.

2. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the seat of the government.

  • Pray that the Knesset will pass laws that are just and fair. Isaiah 1:17
  • Pray for Prime Minister Netanyahu to walk in the wisdom of God as he leads the nation of Israel. II Chronicles 1:10
  • Pray for the members of the Supreme Court of Israel to rule justly on every case presented before them. Deuteronomy 16:20

Shavuot – Last of the Spring Feasts – Celebrated this year May 21-22

Shavuot (the “Feast of Weeks”) is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates two significant events: the Giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and the annual wheat harvest in Israel. Leviticus 23:15-22

    1. The Giving of the Torah: Commemorates the revelation of the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites over 3,000 years ago. It is often described as a “marriage” between God and the Jewish people.
      • Many Jews celebrate this day by attending all-night Torah studies.
      • Also, many Jews wear white on this sacred day.
    2. Harvest: Marked the end of the barley harvest and the start of the summer wheat harvest. It was one of the three pilgrimage festivals where farmers brought their “First Fruits” (Bikkurim) to the Temple in Jerusalem.
      • Book of Ruth is read because it took place during Shavuot season.
      • Dairy foods are eaten symbolizing the biblical description of the land flowing with milk and honey.
    3. One of the three times that God requires the children of Israel to celebrate in Jerusalem and present themselves before the Lord. Deuteronomy 16:16

Shavuot is also known as Pentecost. Pentecost means 50th. It is an appointed time of the Lord 50 days after the Feast of First Fruits. (Leviticus 23:15-16) Christians celebrate this day because it is the day the 120 in the Upper Room were baptized in the Holy Spirit, and the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ was born. It is the Birthday of the Church. (Acts 1:4-5; 2:1-21)

    Prayer for Shavuot, Pentecost

    1. Pray for the farmers in Israel to reap bountiful harvests this year. Psalm 65:11
    2. Pray that many Israelis will experience the joy of studying Torah. Jeremiah 15:16
    3. Pray for Christians as they study the Word that they will understand God’s heart for Israel and our mandate to stand with and support Israel and the Jewish people. Genesis 12:3

    Middle East Update

As of this writing, there are ongoing efforts to maintain de-escalation between the United States, Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran, though the situation remains volatile. There have been repeated exchanges of fire and reported violations involving Hezbollah, prompting retaliatory strikes by the IDF on Hezbollah-linked targets. Meanwhile, the regime in Iran fired ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones at the UAE.

Both President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have consistently stated that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon and have called for Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, to be disarmed and for Iran to cease funding and supporting the group.

    Prayer Points

    1. Pray for the safety of President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Psalm 91
    2. Pray for the safety of U.S. and Israeli soldiers. Psalm 91
    3. Pray for wisdom and understanding for CENTCOM and IDF Command as they plan and execute this war. Joshua 1:9, Psalm 56:3-4
    4. Pray for a just end to this war.

    Israeli Children Suffering from Trauma

Israeli children living in the northern and southern regions of Israel are suffering from trauma from the past two years of constant war. For them, sirens and rocket fire are the background noise of daily life. Some children have lived in shelters for more than a year.

Over the past two years, studies of children living in these areas have shown a decline in their emotional resilience and daily function.

Prayer Points for Children – Psalm 127:3

    1. Pray for wisdom for parents of children dealing with trauma.
    2. Pray for peace and joy for these children. Isaiah 54:13
    3. Pray each child will receive all he or she needs to live in peace and safety.
